JONATHAN COHEN PORTFOLIO PROJECT
FALL/WINTER 25, AFTER HOURS
For the first project in my Fall 24’ portfolio class, I was tasked with picking out a brand and designing five complete looks that were relevant to the brand while still pushing them forward. In addition to this, I had to pick an initiative that fit with the brand and had the opportunity to draw more customers in. I chose to focus on sustainability as it was something Cohen prioritized on his website and I honed in on an ocean iniative since Cohen and I both grew up by the ocean and hold a lot of appreciation for it.
CORE IDEAS AND MUST HAVES:
1. What can I bring to the brand that is exciting and fresh without alienating the current customer?
-This stayed in the back of my head throughout and I executed this by incorporating new materials and new silhouettes.
-Cohen uses flowers religiously in his designs so I intentionally stayed away from them for this project as I wanted to
find newness and trusted that he would certainly add them in himself!
-Currently there isn’t much information about the fabrication of the brand’s garments and I found this was a great opportunity to introduce
premium fabrics and bring this to the forefront when trying to sell these expensive pieces to customers.
2. Highlighting the versatility of the garments
-Cohen’s clothes sell at a premium
price and I wanted to make sure that in addition to emphasizing ultra quality materials,
the clothes have lots of opportunity for lots of use.
-I saw the customer entering Fall 25’ looking for after work excitement and there’s nothing better to accompany her than one of a wide array of garments.
-She has a lot to choose from and
the pieces help her smoothly transition from brisk mornings to
freezing cold commutes to a coctail lounge to unwind after work.
3. Keeping the brand in mind
-For as much newness as I wanted to incorporate, I was also careful to identify Cohen’s current customer and why she shops the brand to begin with.
-I matched trending colors and silhouettes with current staples in all of Cohen’s collections.
-It was important to match my mood board and sketches with the
base of Cohen’s aesthetic,
so that I was confident I would never get too far away from where the brand sits today.
